Daniel Miller

Bowmaker | Artisan | Instrument Repair

16 years of bow making experience and 22 years in string instrument repair, Daniel Miller brings an artisan’s approach to every bow he makes. Every piece has its own character, strengths, limitations, and possibilities. His craft lies in recognizing those qualities and using precision to bring out the very best in the material.

As a wood carver and artisan, Daniel has developed a deep respect for the nature of wood and the patience required to work with it. For him, craftsmanship is often about knowing what not to do—removing only what is necessary, understanding the grain, and allowing the character of the material to remain part of the finished bow.

That philosophy carries into his work with musicians. As a performer himself, Daniel understands that every player and instrument is different, and that a bow needs to do more than look beautiful. Balance, response, weight, flexibility, strength, and feel all play a role in creating a bow that meets the needs of the player. His experience as both a craftsman and a musician allows him to approach each bow with an understanding of the connection between the maker, the instrument, and the person playing it.

Daniel Miller bows are handmade exclusively at Bernhardt House of Violins, bringing together the experience of a specialty shop and the work of an individual craftsman, one bow at a time.
